Lumecca is a device that uses intense pulsed light (IPL) for skin rejuvenation. Manufactured by InMode, it targets age spots; sun damage; pigmentation issues (vascular lesions, port-wine stains, spider veins, freckles) and pigmented lesions; and rosacea. It is a fast and efficient treatment, usually requiring 1-3 sessions. In terms
Before going in for your treatment session, avoid a lot of sun exposure for about four weeks prior, such as tanning.
Additionally, avoid using any peels or harsh chemicals before the treatment. It is also a good idea to avoid waxing before getting IPL.
Finally, be aware of what medications you are taking before the treatment as some, such as aspirin, can increase bleeding.
Then, a gel will be rubbed on your skin, which should be clean and free of any makeup. You will also have to wear glasses to protect your eyes from the light.
The session will last anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.
In general, IPL is not painless, and clients usually feel a level of discomfort. However, the sensation is not unbearable. Most patients compare it to being slapped with a rubber band.
After treatment, your skin may feel tight as if you have been sunburnt, but this feeling should subside within a few hours. It is expected for the treated area to worsen post-treatment, before getting better. Therefore, if you are treating for hyperpigmentation, expect your spots to become darker before getting lighter.
We recommend avoiding heat exposure right after your treatment. For example, you should avoid taking very hot showers or spend an extended amount of time in the sun. In the same regard, always wear sunscreen when going outside to protect your skin from sun exposure. Since the skin will remain sensitive, also avoid any abrasive treatments or skincare, such as deep exfoliation. For aftercare, we recommend keeping the skin moisturized with moisturizers and serums and cleansing it with a gentle cleanser.
